Choose Accent Rugs for a Quick and Easy Way to Decorate Any Room in Your
Home
Accent rugs are an excellent and easy way to do some quick home decorating without breaking the bank. However,
there are a few things you need to know before you use then, such as: colors to choose, how to use them safely and
in a way that doesn't hide the nice flooring beneath them too much.
If you are redecorating your home, you know there are hundreds of things that you can do to change how a room
looks and feels. Throw pillows can help when you just need a splash of color, or a complete paint and carpet change
can help when you need something new and less outdated.
If you want to add a new look and feel without ripping everything up and starting over, consider accent rugs for
your home. You can use them in just one room, or you can scatter them throughout the house. They are usually
affordable and come in many varieties so you can always find something that works.
Use Them Over Existing Carpets
Most people that use accent rugs have hardwood or tile floors, but in the right room, you can use them over
existing carpet. This is something you should think about hard though, as it can look messy and crowded rather than
breezy and stylish. If you have very high traffic areas where your carpet is being destroyed, a few accent rugs may
save you from having to replace your entire carpet. Just choose them carefully and use sparingly where you need
them the most.
Use The Over Bare Floors
If you have bare floors, the sky is the limit when it comes to accent rugs, but you do have to use care. You
don't want to cover all of your floors with accent rugs or it is going to look crowded, messy, and it is also
nightmare to clean. Instead, think about rugs that you can use in the center of the room in chosen areas, and some
runners that you can use in hallways and other areas where a large, square rug may not be the best idea, or won't
fit into the room correctly.
Choosing Your Rug's Colors
Choose colors that go with the room in question. Most know that, but choosing those colors is the problem. You
can get them in a color that contrasts or compliments what you have on the walls, but never match your wall color
exactly. This does not help give your room any dimension. If you are not sure what to buy, go look at paint
swatches. Find your wall color and then see the other colors on the strip. These are usually the complimentary
colors, and some also offer contrasting colors. These can help you choose the colors for your accent rugs when
shopping.
Accent Rug Safety is a Big Concern
Keep your home safe by making sure your accent rugs are not going to cause someone to trip or fall. If they are
not secured to the floor in some way, they can slip easily, causing injury, especially if you have young children
or elderly people in your home. Heavy rugs may come with backing that helps them stick to one spot, or you can buy
backing that you can lay down under your accent rugs if they are too light or they do not have backing on them that
keeps them in place. Don't forget to lift them up to sweep or vacuum once in a while, as all types of debris can
get under them.
